At More for Music, we believe in the transformative power of making music. Too many instruments sit unused in homes and storage cupboards across the country while countless schools, music hubs and youth ensembles lack the resources to provide their students with musical opportunities. This gap not only silences potential talent but also deprives individuals of the proven benefits of music education—boosting confidence, creativity, and connection.
More for Music exists to bridge this gap, ensuring every instrument finds a home and every aspiring musician has a chance to play.
More for Music was inspired by a simple yet striking reality: while countless students dream of learning to play an instrument, many schools and music teachers lack the resources to provide them. Numerous music teachers shared stories of talented, eager students who couldn’t afford instruments, leaving their potential untapped.
In 2020, a study conducted by the Arts Council into Music Education Hubs revealed a surprising fact: across just a handful of hubs interviewed, there were thousands of unused instruments sitting idle. At the same time, many individuals had old instruments gathering dust at home—treasured items that remained unplayed for years.
These realisations sparked the creation of More for Music. Our platform was designed to connect these dots: enabling unused instruments to find new homes with those who need them most. By providing a simple way for donors to give and for schools and charities to receive, we aim to ensure every instrument can make music again.
